Evelyn Waugh (1903–1966) was an English novelist and convert to Catholicism. He is best known for Brideshead Revisited as well as his social and political satire in novels like A Handful of Dust and Scoop. His faith shaped his exploration of themes like hope, sin, and redemption, especially in Brideshead Revisited and his Sword of Honor Trilogy where Catholicism plays a central role. Waugh was often critical of modernity, and his novels reflect the tension between faith and the secular world’s ideas of success. His works continue to be significant for their religious depth and sharp social commentary.
